Postcards From Sonoma Country

Happy Thanksgiving

This is Mike Cleary with a postcard from Sonoma Country. Happy Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday. I was telling Sonoma Valley winemaker Richard Arrowood about our family’s tradition where everybody writes out ten things we learned that year. We read them aloud when we get together. They are often touching, poignant and sometimes very funny. So, one thing I learned this year? When you’re talking with a talented winemaker, don’t let him go without recommending wines, in this case, wine to pair with turkey. For a white Richard said a good gerwurtztraminer is, and I quote, heavenly with smoked turkey. Pinot Noir is his choice for a red. He added pinot noirs from the Russian River and Carneros Valleys are particularly good with game. I guess that means turkey and football.
