I’m Mike Cleary, with a Postcard from Sonoma Country. You’ll find lots of activities kids will enjoy on the Sonoma Coast. Actually, Sonoma Country is family-friendly no matter the region. One of the most popular music events that will appeal to young and old is the Old Time Fiddle Contest in Cloverdale.

In Santa Rosa, take the kids skating at the Redwood Empire Ice Arena or go fishing at Lake Sonoma. I even know of a one-of-a-kind winery tour in the Sonoma Valley that will delight and amaze the kids.

At Benziger Winery, a tractor pulls a tram load of visitors through their vineyards, gardens and wildlife sanctuaries. The scenery is breathtaking, the information fascinating and the tour includes a visit to their underground caves. We’ve done it and it’s better than a Disney Ride.

I’m Mike Cleary with a postcard from Sonoma Country. I don’t know how many times Mary Ann and I have experienced something in Sonoma Country and commented that it would really fascinate and entertain kids as well. Our daughters are grown and making their own adventures. But if you have youngsters, take heed. Sonoma Country offers so much for families to do. For example, the gray whales are headed south and passing the Sonoma Coast. In Bodega Bay you can sign up for a whale-watching cruise with the Oceanic Society. Also, your children will love historic Fort Ross State Park and Salt Point State Park, one of the first underwater preserves in California. And the good news is there are plenty of lodgings in the area that welcome families. Tomorrow, we’ll head inland for some more kid-friendly activities.
